Charles E. Speaks

Charles Estil Speaks, 91, of Owensboro, died July 30, 2013 at Hillcrest. He was born September 29, 1921 in Daviess County to the late Charles W. and Mary Agnes Hamilton Speaks. Charles was a Navy Veteran of WWII serving aboard the USS Idaho and retired from Texas Gas with 35 years of service. He was of the Catholic faith and a member of Blessed Mother Catholic Church. Charles enjoyed creating stained glass windows for which he won several State Fair blue ribbons. He also enjoyed UK basketball.

Surviving are his wife of 61 years, LaVerne Moore Speaks; daughters, Jennifer McGee of Owensboro; Ange (Louis) Gabbard of Florida; Debbie (Joe) Gordon of Owensboro; a son, Kevin (Jalynn) Speaks of Louisville; granddaughters, Claire (Richard) Bennett and Charly McGee; grandsons, Jaret and Chad Williams, Greg McGee, Garrett Gordon, Michael (Sally) Shannonhouse, Jody (Sherry) Speaks, Bradley (Jessica) Speaks and Adam Speaks; great granddaughters, Audrey Bennett, Sophia Yeiser, Lydia Williams, Jasmine Bridges, Betty, Juliette and Brinley Shannonhouse and Celia Speaks; great grandsons, Wyatt and Donovan Shannonhouse, Finn and Elliott Speaks and Maxx Williams.

Services will be noon Friday, August 2, 2013 at Blessed Mother with Fr. John Meredith presiding. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 pm with prayers at 6 pm Thursday, August 1, 2013 at Glenn Funeral Home & Crematory and 10 to noon at Blessed Mother.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Blessed Mother Catholic Church Music Ministry. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
