Charles R. Smith, 74, of 213 Stockton Dr., Owensboro, passed away Thursday, July 22, 2004, at the Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born in Greenville, Ky. and was retired from Green River Steel Corp. as a pipefitter. He also had been a real estate agent for Home Realty Co., he was the former president and secretary of the United Steel Workers Union Local #4959, had been on the board of the Green River Area Federal Credit Union, and on the board of the Roosevelt House. He was a member of Wesleyan Heights United Methodist Church. He enjoyed basketball, gardening, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy & Julia Lovell Smith, brothers, Roy W. Smith and Robert M. Smith, and sister, Ann Allison Smith.

Surviving is his wife of 46 years, Carol Kendall Smith, two daughters and a son-in-law, Kim & Greg Shannon of Owensboro, and Julie Smith of Madisonville, and a son, Kendall Smith of Owensboro, a brother, Rodney Smith of Tampa, Fl., five grandchildren, Nathan & Brittany Wood of Madisonville, Kyle Sawyer-Smith of Owensboro, and Jessica & Nicholas Shannon of Owensboro.

Services will be at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, July 24, at Glenn Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 P.M. Friday, and after Noon Saturday at the funeral home.
