Charles Smith

Charles "Charlie" Wilson Smith, 90, of Owensboro, passed away Sunday, January 11, 2015 at the Owensboro Medical Center. He was born February 16, 1924, to the late George and Josephine Smith of Henderson. Charlie was a member of Immaculate Catholic Church. He retired from Bell South on June 22, 1984.
Charlie was a World War II Navy Veteran. He belonged to the Telephone Pioneers, Knights of Columbus, and American Legion Post. Charlie was a Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus where he lived in Henderson, Ky. He enjoyed High School and College Basketball games, playing cards, gardening, and spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Charlie was preceded in death by his brothers, George Smith, Thomas Smith, and William Smith; sisters, Anna Theresa Smith, Mary Louise Mingus, Sister Frances Josephine, and Catherine Spalding.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Margaret "Margie" Smith; sons, Michael "Mike" Smith (Kay) of Henderson and Robert "Bob" Smith (Kathy) of Newburgh; daughters, Debra "Debbie" Dunaway (Jed) of Henderson and Tammy Neel (Mac) of Henderson; grandchildren, Daniel Smith (Whitney) of Henderson, Brandon Smith of Bozeman MT., Erin Hoskins (Jonathan) of Manchester, KY., David Dunaway (Sarah) of Houston, TX and Christopher Dunaway of Hoboken, New Jersey, Jason Smith (Amanda) of Evansville, Jenna Donovan (Kevin) of Newtown CT., A. Michelle Smith of Madrid, Spain, Hannah Smith of Newburgh, IN, Elizabeth Neel, and Patrick Neel of Henderson; 7 great-grandchildren; brothers, Frank Smith of Evansville and James Smith of Henderson; sister, Helen Tuebner of Buffalo, MO; sister-in-law, Mariam Smith of Henderson; sister and brother-in-law Betty and Paul Hatfield of Evansville; and many nieces and nephews.
Service will be at 10:30 at Immaculate Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Louis Cemetery in Henderson, KY. Visitation will be from 2:00 - 7:00 Wednesday and from 8:30- 10:00 on Thursday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Prayers will be 6:30 Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Immaculate Catholic Church or Wounded Warriors.
