Charles B. Payne

Charles Benedict (John) Payne, 89, of Owensboro, passed away on July 13, 2014 at the Owensboro Center. He was born in Daviess County on December 20, 1924 to the late Herbert Xavier and David Marie (Roby) Payne. John worked in the auto service and retired in 1981. He never complained inspite of being stricken with polio as a small child, affecting his leg and foot. John enjoyed playing the mandolin, guitar, and listening to bluegrass music.

John is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Margaret Payne on September 8, 2013; brothers Joseph (JT), Leroy, William (Brookie), and Gene; sister, Mirl Clark, and aunt, Josephine Payne Head on June 3, 2013.

Survivors includ his children, Barbara (George) Beard of Louisville, Randall Lee Payne, Judy (Paul) Brown, Charles Ray (Wanda) of Owensboro, and Linda (David) Bailey of Beaver Dam, 6 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, a sister, Rita (Richard) Stiff and a step brother Allen Mason.

Services will be at noon on Thursday July 17, 2014 at St. William Catholic Church officiated by Father John Okoro. Burial will be in St. William Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30am to 11:30am on Thursday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory.
