Charles A. Payne

Mr. Charles A. Charlie Payne, age 68 of 2001 Reid Road, Owensboro, Kentucky, died Friday morning, April 26th, 2002 at the Western Kentucky Veterans Center in Hanson, Kentucky.

Mr Payne was a retired Staff Sargeant from the U.S. Army after 21 years of service. He was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He entered the service, June 13, 1951 and retired on February 29, 1972. He received three bornze service stars and Korean Service Medal, NDSM with OLC, United Nations Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, four Good Conduct Medals, the Armed Forces Expeditionary medal and ARCOM 20LC. Mr. Payne was a member of Sts. Joseph and Paul Catholic Church in Owensboro, AMVETS, and the VFW. He enjoyed listening to traditional country music and gospel music.

He is survived by two sons; Henry L. Payne of Alexandria, Virginia, and Charles Leslie Payne of Largo, Florida; two daughters; Pamela G. Meier and Dorothy Dottie Statts, both of Owensboro; two brothers; Arthur Payne of Topeka, Kansas, and Eugene Payne of Louisville, Kentucky; ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, several neices and nephews.

There will be no visitation. Memorial services will be held in the Chapel of Peace in Rosehill Cemetery on Tuesday, April 30th, 2002 at 2:30 p.m. with military honors. Burial will follow in Rosehill Cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the AMVETS or VFW oganizations in Owensboro.
