Charles Francis Lucas

Charles Francis Lucas Jr., 88 of Owensboro died November 15 at the Carmel Home. He was born August 16, 1920 to the late Charles Francis Lucas and Lola Delillies Lucas in Oregon City, Oregon. At the age of two, Charles moved with his parents to Glendale, California. He served in the Army Air Force from December 1941 to October 1946. October 1943 to July 1945 was spent in the European Theater of Operations as part of the 9th Air Force. Duty consisted of continuous flight and combat training along with supply and combat missions into France, Holland, and Germany. Second Lieutenant Lucas flew glider missions into Normandy on June 6, 1944.
After discovering his love of oil exploration while working for J.C. Miller Oil Company, he became a partner in L & H Drilling Company. Professional organizations include the National and Kentucky Societies of Professional Engineers, Indiana and Kentucky Geological Societies, and the Kentucky Oil and Gas Association where he served as director and Vice President from 1974 to 1978.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Martha Nell (Brown) Lucas; his daughter Anne Lynne Vorrasi and husband Lou, son Charles "Rick" Lucas and his wife Yolande, daughter Nancy Ellen Lucas, grandchildren Jill Payne and her husband Matt, Brandon Lucas, Matt Lucas, Jennifer Crook, Lucas Layendecker of Owensboro, Nick Vorrasi of Lexington, and four great grandchildren, Taylor Lucas, Gavin Lucas, Carter Payne of Owensboro, and Nicholas Vorrasi, Lexington.
Services will be at 4 p.m. Monday at Glenn Funeral Home where visitation will be from 11a.m. until time of services.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Carmel Home.
