Sister Charles Irene Hayden, 91, an Ursuline Sister of Mount Saint Joseph, died October 22, at Mount Saint Joseph, in her 62nd year of religious life.
She was born Julia Irene Hayden in Browns Valley, the daughter of the late Charles Simeon and Lucy Delphine Hayden. An educator for 51 years, she taught at St. Mary Magdalene, Sorgho (1946) and Blessed Mother, Owensboro, where she was teacher (1956-62) and principal (1960-66). She served as music teacher, classroom teacher, principal, and outreach minister in the Archdiocese of Louisville, and in Nebraska, Indiana, and New Mexico. She was local community treasurer at Mount Saint Joseph,1994-2000.
Survivors include many nieces and nephews and the members of her religious community.
The funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 24, at Mount Saint Joseph, where visitation will begin Thursday at 4 p.m., with a wake service following at 6:30 p.m.
