It is with the heaviest of hearts and yet hearts full of hope that we announce that Charles Howard "Chuck" Green passed away on Saturday, August 30, 2025. Chuck was surrounded by his wife and 3 daughters after a courageous battle against pancreatic cancer. During his last week of life, he was also surrounded by the love of his two son-in-laws and six grandchildren as they shared many hugs, kisses, and "I love you's".
Chuck was born to Charles and Jeannette Howard Green of Rumsey, KY, on April 25, 1956, in Owensboro, KY. His childhood was spent in McLean County on his parents' farm in Rumsey. He worked with his cousin, Lance Green, and his Uncle, John Green, on Green Brothers' Farms until he went away to college. They raised hogs and crops while living the country life of hard work and love of family!
Chuck attended the University of Kentucky and graduated with an agriculture education degree in 1977. He was a proud member of the Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity. The fraternity membership made lifelong friendships and memories.
Chuck's first teaching job was as an agriculture teacher and FFA advisor in Oldham County, KY. It is here that Chuck would spot his future wife, Susan, across the room at a teacher's in-service training to start the new school year. This led to a marriage of almost 45 years. After moving back to McLean County, Chuck began his career in education administration, both in McLean and Daviess County school systems. He retired after 29 years in education as the Director of Student Services for Daviess County Public Schools. Upon retirement, Chuck served as the principal for Mary Carrico Catholic Schools in Knottsville, KY, for 2 years. He also served as an interim administrator at Audubon Elementary School and College View Middle School. Throughout his career, Chuck was known for his professional work ethic and his sense of humor in his leadership roles.
Chuck's love for life and the little things includes many that we will remember when we hear his name or think of him. No one loved popcorn, beer, going to Romp, and sitting around a blazing campfire at the lake more than he did. His daily routines always included several cups of coffee with his creamer and sweetener to the point that when he traveled, he packed his own Keurig machine!
In 2009, an already blessed life became even more blessed by the arrival of their first grandchild, and now there are six grandchildren. Chuck loved being a Papaw, and the grandchildren became a priority in his life. They took them camping, to Nick's for ice cream, tubing on Rough River, making s'mores and eating popcorn around the campfire, and his famous Boston Butt on holiday weekends. Papaw leaves a legacy of love and memories that will be forever treasured.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Douglas Green and Jeanette Howard Green.
Those left to treasure his memory and honor his legacy of love are his wife of almost 45 years, Susan Green; daughters, Rachel Lacap (Bill), Jenna Hagan (Elijah), and Kelsey Haynes; his six grandchildren that he loved deeply, Jane Marie Lacap, Emma Grace Hagan, Trace Haynes, Elena Lacap, Brayden Hagan, and Oliver Charles Haynes. He is also survived by his loving sister Lesia Donahoo (Terry) of Calhoun, KY. Chuck was like a brother to his wife, Susan's family; Bobby Ward, Holly and Robert Askin, David and Debbie Ward, Michael and Debby Ward, Leanne and Scott Murphy, Nancy and Keith Arnold, Tracy and Kevin Ward, Julie and Keith Murphy, Kathy and Brad Lanham, Carolyn and Pat Hume, and John and Angela Ward. He was also a "favorite" uncle to many, many nieces and nephews. His presence will also be deeply missed by his Rough River friends who shared a lifetime of love, laughter, and many a Blue's Brothers routines in their Falling Rock Neighborhood.
The family wishes to express their gratitude for the care Chuck received at the Mitchell Memorial Cancer Center, and while he was under the care of Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Kentucky.
