Charles Martin Gilles

Charles Martin Gilles, 95, of Owensboro, died June 27, 2015. He was born August 11, 1919 to the late Andrew and Josephine Strehl Gilles. Charles was a member of Blessed Mother Catholic Church. He was a US Army Veteran of World War II and served under unit 752 as a Tank Commander. He enjoyed fishing and being with family. He was a very kind and quiet person that always loved to joke with people. His jokes included a stash of fake rodents and reptiles he enjoyed sharing with the young ones in the family. He was a truly devoted husband of nearly 60 years. Charles was talented and loving and leaves behind a life that will be remembered.

Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Helen Gilles and a son, Richard Gilles; sisters, Loretta Bross, Mary Rose Ling, Maydel Kreger; brothers, Walter Gilles, Paul William Gilles, Hubert Gilles, Clarence Gilles, Earnest Gilles, and Sylvester Gilles.

Survivors include his sons, Michael D. (Cathy) Gilles, Dennis Gene (Cynthia) Gilles, and Joseph Allan Gilles; grandchildren, Paul (Rachelle) Gilles, Shelly (Morgan) Ward, Matt (Chrissy) Gilles, Carolyn (Schot) Hannah, Marcia (Brian) Raper, Richard (Erin) Gilles, John ( Mary) Gilles, David Gilles, Christopher (Jeana) Gilles; step-grandchildren, Todd (Stephanie) ) Franklin, Greg Franklin, and Kristy (Michael)Arnold; great-grandchildren, Hannah, Hayden, Nathan, Jackson, Andy, Madie, Elly Kate, and Owens Gilles, Jacob and Daniel Ward, Alex Schotz, Dylan and Trenton Raper; step- great- grandchildren, Maddie and Mary Franklin, and Paige and Taylor Farah; sisters, Pauline Fark and Barbara (David) Whalen, both of Evansville.

Service will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday July 1, 2015 at Blessed Mother Catholic Church. Visitation will be 5-8:00 p.m. Tuesday and after 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Prayers will be 7:00 p.m. Tuesday.
