Charles G. Fischer

June 7, 1924 — July 2, 2003

Reverend Charles G. Fischer of Marksberry Road, Owensboro, died at Owensboro Mercy Health System on July 2, 2003. He attended St. Charles Seminary in Catonsville, Maryland for three years and finished his seminary training at St. Marys in Baltimore, Maryland. Father Fischer was ordained at St. Stephens Cathedral by the Most Reverend Francis R. Cotton on May 30, 1950.

Father Fischer was Associate Pastor at S. S. Joseph and Paul, St. Anthony, Browns Valley and St. Sebastian, Calhoun. He served as Pastor at Rosary Chapel, Paduach, St. Mary, LaCenter, St. Rose, Cloverport, St. Mary of the Woods, Whitesville, St. Agnes, Uniontown, Blessed Mother, Owensboro and St. Paul, Leitchfield and St. Elizabeth, Clarkson, where he supervised the building of a new church. He retired in 2001.

Father Fischer also taught at St. Francis Academy, Owensboro Catholic High School, St. Marys Academy in Paducah and St. Romuald School in Hardinsburg. He organized and was a very active member of the Cursillo Movement.

He is survived by two brothers, Frank and his wife Kay Fischer of Cedar Rapids, MI and Bernard Fischer of Big Springs, TX; one sister, Jean and her husband Harry Wilhelm of Houston, TX; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Reuben (Joan) Fischer of Cedar Rapids, MI and Mrs. Henry (Jane) Fischer of Sarasota, FL; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be at Glenn Funeral Home from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 4, 2003 with prayers at 7:00 p.m. after which the body will be taken to St. Anthony Catholic Church for an all night vigil and visitation until the funeral at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 5, 2003. Burial will follow in St. Anthonys Church Cemetery at Browns Valley.
