Charles Darrell Farmer passed away at the age of 77 on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at Jewish Hospital in Louisville. Darrell Farmer loved life, dancing, flirting, and being the center of attention. He was born in Whitesville, the first child of the late Chester and Opal Puckett Farmer and the first grandchild of his father's parents, the late Charles and Clara Taylor Farmer. He cherished the memories of the days he spent on his grandparent's farm in Adaburg and the stories of his spoiled childhood were countless. Darrell graduated from Daviess County High School in 1958. The first jobs he held were at Dennis & Akers Drug Store and Fisher Tichenor's service station. He retired from the Owensboro Police Department as a detective sergeant in 1996 and in 2008 from the Housing Authority of Owensboro as Senior Housing Inspector. He enjoyed text messaging with his grandchildren and his nephew Frankie to discuss sports and tell them he loved him. He was a recent adopter of Amazon Echo. Darrell kept in touch with his old OPD friends, enjoying discussing their past experiences and loved the time spent with his puppy and best buddy, Alice.
Darrel is survived by his wife of almost 48 years Becky Pass Farmer; his children Scott Farmer, Cathye Cordell, and Jody Darriell Farmer-Kinsey (Robert) and (step)son Jerry Garner (Becky); numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his sister Betty Libs (Mike); his brothers Donnie Farmer (Karen) and Jerry Dale Farmer (Kay); and a host of special friends, among them Sandy Fentress, Waymond Morris, Rev. Ed Bradley, John Costello, Keith Free, and Alexa.
A gathering of family and friends will be in the spring. Expressions of sympathy make take the form of contributions to The Daniel Pitino Shelter, SparKy Animal Rescue, or the Owensboro Humane Society. Mr. Farmer is in the care of Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory.
