Charles W. Dawson

Charles W. Dawson, Sr., 84, of 8234 Short Station Road, Philpot, died Monday, August 28, 2006 at his home. Born in Owensboro, a son of the late Ryland and Cordelia OFlynn Dawson, he was a graduate of Whitesville High School and attended the University of Kentucky. Mr. Dawson had been a farmer all of his adult life. For over 40 years, he received many first-place awards at the Kentucky State Fair for a variety of crops and was particularly known for his pecan entries. In his latter years, he and his wife enjoyed travel to locales that included Hawaii, China, Korea, Japan, Europe, Ireland, and the Caribbean. He was both the oldest and longest standing member of Karns Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Monnie Wood Dawson; his sons, Charles W. Dawson, Jr. and his wife Pam, of Yelvington, and Johnny Dawson and his wife Debbie of Gatewood; his daughters, Dr. Judy Dawson Dulin and her husband Stan, of Elizabethtown, Janet Dawson Arney and her husband Roy of Henderson, and Stacy Jayne Dawson of Douglasville, GA; his grandchildren, Charles W. Dawson, III and his wife Angie, Jason Dawson and his wife Carissa, Major John Dulin and his wife Amy, Jennifer Dulin, Ashley Gorman and her husband Scotty, Winston Dawson, Janessa Arney, Janssen Arney, and Allison Bailey Dawson; his great-grandchildren, Cara Dulin, Joshua Dulin, Haley Gorman, and Benjamin Dawson; and his sister, Louise Midkiff of Lexington.

Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 30, the day of his birth, at Glenn Funeral Home, where visitation will be from 3:00 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Karns Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Cemetery Fund of Karns Grove Baptist Church.
