Charles Ray Childers

Charles Ray “Charlie” Childers, 78, of Owensboro, passed away Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at his residence in Owensboro. He was born November 24, 1947, in Woodbine, KY, to the late O’Neil and Rudell (Martin) Childers.

Along with his parents, Charlie was also preceded in death by his brother Rex Childers, and a nephew, Kevin Wells.

Charlie was a Vietnam Veteran having served in the Air Force. He was also very proud of having served as the “Worshipful Master” of the Hugh Harris Masonic Lodge in Corbin, KY. Charlie loved the outdoors and spent much of his younger years fishing and hunting. He was an outstanding bowler, and was able to fix just about anything. Mr. Childers designed billboard advertising and worked in the construction industry for many years.

Mr. Childers is survived by his wife of 41 years, Peggy; sons, Wesley Childers, and Mark Pace (Owensboro); daughter, Lisa Shinkle (Randy); grandchildren, Brandon Shinkle (Lacey), Brent Shinkle, Kyle Pace, and Kyndle Pace; a sister; Mary Ann Wells (Bill); one great-grand-daughter, Lilly Shinkle; and a niece, April French.

A memorial service for Charlie will be held at a later date.
