Charles Cecil

Charles "Leon" Cecil, 78, of Tampa, Florida died Friday, February 6, 2015 at the James A. Haley Hospital in Tampa. Leon was born in Daviess County, Kentucky to the late Charles L. and Georgia Ann (Mattingly) Cecil.

Leon was a High School teacher in Owensboro, Kentucky and St. Louis, Missouri and later a Counselor with Vocational Rehabilitation and Barnes Hospital School of Nursing, both in St. Louis. Leon was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Tampa, Florida. He loved to watch sports, particularly University of Kentucky basketball. Leon enjoyed working with people and mentored many students throughout his career.

Leon was preceded in death by five siblings, Marie (Robert) Simmons, Bernard Cecil, Sr., George Ann Cecil, Bobby Cecil and Paul Cecil.

Surviving is his wife of 48 years, Eleanor Lally Cecil; children, Charles Cecil of St. Louis, Missouri and Joan Cecil of Tampa, Fl.; siblings, Hugh (Betty) Cecil, Mildred (J.C.) Higdon and Frankie (Rita) Cecil of Owensboro and sisters-in-law, Mary Ruth Cecil and Beverly Cecil of Owensboro.

The funeral mass will be 11:00 a.m. Friday February, 13th at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church with Rev. Raymond Goetz officiating. Burial will follow in St. Alphonsus Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. with prayers at 7 p.m., and after 9 a.m. Friday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, St. Vincent dePaul Society of your choice or other organization of your choice.
