Charles Thomas "Tommy" Brown, Jr., 69, of Owensboro passed away Saturday, July 29 at his home. Mr. Brown was born June 7, 1948 in Daviess County to the late Charles T. Brown Sr. and Anna Lee Ensor Brown. He was known as Charlie by some and Tommy by others. Tommy was a member of Blessed Mother Church but was formerly a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church where he served as a hospitality minister and one of God's housekeepers. He loved swimming and baseball and played Little League, Babe Ruth League and for the Velvet Bombers American Legion Team as an outfielder and his favorite position, catcher. Charlie graduated from Owensboro Catholic High in 1966 and received a scholarship to Kentucky Wesleyan College where he played baseball for two years. He joined the Owensboro Police Department and retired after 20 years as a Lieutenant. He was then employed at Glenmore Distillery for 22 years as a Production Supervisor being well respected by his co-workers. He was known as one of the old school "good ole boys" that always got the job done in a professional and respectful manner. Charlie was a Kentucky Colonel, member of Knights of Columbus, the F.O.P. and a New York Yankee fan whose favorite player was Mickey Mantle whose hand he was able to shake. He was also of the rare breed of being both a Louisville Cardinal and a Kentucky Wildcat fan.
Mr. Brown also was preceded in death by his sister, Wanda Whobrey.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Connie Mattingly Brown; son, Christopher C. Brown and wife Angie of Morgantown; daughter, April Patton and husband James of Masonville; grandchildren, Skyler Brown, Parker Patton, and Carter Patton; great grandchildren, Carson and Aria Fields; sister, Barbara McDaniel; brother, Darrell Brown (Carolynn); sister, Brenda Adkins (Ron); several aunts and numerous nieces and nephews.
The service will be noon Thursday at Blessed Mother Catholic Church with Father Emmanuel Udoh officiating. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 10:00 to 2:00 PM at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory.
