Charles E. Bratcher, Sr. , 87, of Owensboro passed away Tuesday, February 6, 2007 at his home. Born June 11, 1919 in Daviess County, he was the son of the late Roy and Irene Unser Bratcher; retired January 1, 2007 after 59 years as owner-operator of Bratcher Vacuum Supply attributing his enjoyable life to the many fine customers he was privileged to serve over the years; was a member of the Zion United Church of Christ; and was an Army veteran of World War II. He was an avid bicyclist and enjoyed woodworking. Mr. Bratcher was preceded in death by his first wife, Verna Marie Raley Bratcher in 1946; his second wife, Emma Louise Alvey Bratcher in 1988; a son, Charles E. Bratcher, Jr. in 1978; and brothers and sisters, Weldon Bratcher, George Bratcher, Martin Bratcher, Roy Bratcher, and Jean Bratcher.
He is survived by a son, George (and Marilyn) Bratcher of Owensboro; daughters, Judy (and Buddy) Boue of Dandridge, TN and Barbara (and Paul) Smith of Owensboro; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; a sister, Marguerite Bell of Owensboro.
Services are 1 P.M. Thursday, February 8, 2007 at Glenn Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Marx officiating followed by burial in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 A.M. to 1 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Zion United Church of Christ, Hospice and Palliative Care of the Ohio Valley, or the American Red Cross.
