"Velvet Milk Man"
Charles Ersel Bennett, 82, passed away Saturday, July 6, 2013 . He was born on January 7, 1931 in Ohio Co., KY to the late Ottwell and Ora Bennett.
Charles served in the United States Army from 1949 until 1954 before he married the love of his life, Lorena Mae Bennett on April 15, 1955 and were married for 57 years. He and his wife were long time members of Walnut Memorial Baptist Church. He provided for his family by working as wholesale milk route salesman for Velvet Milk Company for 30 years and Prairie Farms Milk Company for 12 years before retiring in 1993. He enjoyed watching his son Greg race go carts with the Southern Indiana Racing Association and going to car shows to exhibit his 1957 Ford Fairlane 500 ( which he purchased new) with his family. Above all Charles enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and out on his farm.
Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Lorena Mae Bennett on April 8, 2013.
Surviving are his son, Charles Gregory Bennett (Susan) of Owensboro; his grandchildren, Lauren Jessica Bennett and Connor Gregory Bennett both of Owensboro, and his sister, Waltrude McCain of Rochester, MI.
Funeral services will be at 2:00PM Wednesday in the chapel of Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with entombment held at Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Reverend Jeff Hendricks will be officiating services. Visitation will be held from 3 until 8:00PM on Tuesday and after noon on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the American Diabetes Association.
