Charles Allen "Al" Barthlow, 79, of Owensboro, formerly of Hopkinsville, New Orleans, LA, and Picayune, MS, died Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at his home. He was born May 20, 1931 to the late James Victor and Charline Allen Barthlow in Crittenden County. He served as a District Manager of CreditThrift Finance Company for 32 1/2 years, he was a Mason, and was a member of the Hadi Shrine Temple, a member of the First United Methodist Church, and was an Army Veteran of the Korean War. Al began his love affair with music in the 5th grade and started his professional career while still in high school. He most recently played with the Owensboro Community Band, the Old Dam Band, Bend in the River Brass Band, Hadi Temple Brass Band, and the Owensboro Symphony Orchestra 2nd Street Band. He also played with many top names while in New Orleans and other areas; including The Dukes of Dixieland, Pete Fountain, Al Hirt, Boots Randolph, and Harry Connick, Sr.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Mary Jane Barthlow in 1992, and by two brothers, James Douglas Barthlow and Larry Wayne Barthlow.
Survivors include his son, Jeff (Debbie) Barthlow of Cadiz, his daughters, Victoria (Ron) Hunn of Owensboro, and Rebecca (David) Copeland of Frankfort; five grandchildren, Sean (Jamie) Johnson, Kyle (Britney) Johnson, Angela North, Leslie Barthlow, and Mary Kaitlyn Barthlow Davis; thirteen great-grandchildren; a special friend, Helen Cazon and her son, Nicholas of Owensboro.
Graveside services will be 11:00 AM Friday, at Green Hill Memorial Gardens in Hopkinsville, with Military Honors. Visitation will be 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM Thursday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory.
