Cecil Rodney Burns

February 2, 1917 — April 23, 2003

Rodney Burns, 86, of 2526 River Run Cove, Owensboro, died Wednesday, April 23, 2003, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. He was born in Daviess Co., Ky. and was a retired farmer. He was the son of the late Fred I. And Golda Taylor Burns. He was a member of Bellevue Baptist Church where he was a Deacon and Sunday School teacher. He was a U. S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He and his wife served as volunteer missionaries in Africa in the 1980s and while there, operated a farm for the Baptist Foreign Mission Board. He also enjoyed reading.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Katherine Burns, a son, John Burns of Owensboro, 3 Daughters, Marla Bourne of Douglas, Georgia, Kathy Benz of Bowling Green, Ky. and Rachel Blanton of Brandon, Florida, 8 Grandchildren and 1 Great Grandchild, and a brother, James Burns of Owensboro.
Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, April 27, at Bellevue Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00-8:00 P.M. Saturday and after 12:00 Noon Sunday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may be made as donations to Bellevue Baptist Church Building Fund, 519 W. Byers Ave., Owensboro, Ky. 42303
