Cecelia Payne Schartung, 94, of Owensboro, passed away on Saturday, December 19, 2009 at Hermitage Care and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on April 24, 1915 in Daviess Co., Ky. to the late William Edward and Grace Farmer Payne. She was a homemaker and a member of Blessed Mother Catholic Church. She loved flower gardening, making rosaries, and spending time with her family. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Albert Schartung, Sr. on April 9, 1991, two sons, Mike Schartung in 2005 and Bill Schartung in 2007, a daughter, Dot Quinn in 2007, and four grandchildren, Joe Schartung, Angela Schartung, Jackie Schartung, and Margie Early.
Surviving are five sons, Tom Schartung and wife Joan of Bristol, TN, John Schartung, Jr. of Moseleyville, David Schartung of Washington, D. C., Jim "Bob" Schartung and wife Dot and Bernard Schartung and wife Janet, all of Owensboro, four daughters, Joann Millay of Stanley, Barbara Hodskins and husband Bob of Fordsville, Patricia Ann Lucht of Apopka, FL, Mary Jo Haynes and husband Bob of Owensboro, 38 grandchildren, 72 great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren.
Services will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 22, at Blessed Mother Catholic Church with burial following in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00-8:00 P.M. Monday and after 12 Noon Tuesday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Prayers will be 5:00 P.M. Monday at the funeral home.
