Catherine Whitsett

Catherine Whitsett, 89, of Owensboro, went to be with the Lord on August 9, 2024, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. Catherine was born in Owensboro on October 24, 1934, to the late Claude and Rena Wilson Gibbs. 

Catherine was a dedicated nursing assistant at the hospital and a personal caregiver to many. Her deep passion for caring for others defined her life and brought comfort to all who knew her.

Family was the center of Catherine's world. She cherished raising her four boys, always being actively involved in their lives. Her love for her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren knew no bounds, and she delighted in every moment spent with them. Holidays were especially dear to Catherine, and she took great joy in hosting family gatherings, making sure everyone was together to share in the celebrations. Known for her exceptional cooking, she was particularly famous for her fruit salad, a recipe she guarded with pride, and her homemade biscuits made from scratch.

Catherine was a beacon of positivity and strength. Even as her vision began to fade, her steadfast optimism remained unshaken. She gracefully accepted the changes in her life and continued to live fully, finding joy in listening to her church services on television. She also had a sweet spot for Little Debbie Nutty Bars and Oatmeal Cream Pies, always accompanied by a Diet Rite.

Catherine's warmth, kindness, and love for her family and friends will be deeply missed, but her legacy of care and positivity will live on in the hearts of those she touched.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sons, Wayne Whitsett and Alfred Whitsett; daughter, Patricia Ann Whitsett; siblings, Claude, Louise, Mae, Josephine, Annie, and Francis; and a great-granddaughter, Katie-Beth Taylor. 

She is survived by her sons, Perry Whitsett (Carolyn) and James Whitsett; daughter-in-laws, Beth Whitsett and Dawn Whitsett, 10 grandchildren, and a whole host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. 

The funeral service for Catherine Whitsett will be at 2:00 pm Friday, August 16, 2024, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be from 12:00 until the time of service Friday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Rosehill Cemetery.
