Catherine D. Smith

Mrs. Catherine Smith, 84, of Owensboro, passed away Saturday, August 2, 2008, at the Owensboro Medical Health System, surrounded by her family. She was born March 29, 1924 to the late Wiley and Carrie Turner Darnell. She was a faithful homemaker, a member of the Rochester United Methodist Church, past president and secretary of the Fleur de Lis Garden Club, past matron of Acacia Chapter # 46 Order of the Eastern Star, past president of Green River Dental Auxiliary, scribe of Owensboro Shrine No. 2, Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem, and a former board member of the YWCA. She enjoyed working with her family genealogy, gardening, painting, knitting, sewing and ceramics.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Henry Carroll Smith, on November 6, 2004, and a sister, Mary Ruble Keck.

Survivors include her son, Hal Turner Smith of Owensboro; her sister, Marguerite Meyer of Tulsa, OK; sister-in-law, Mattie Spence Corder of Madisonville, brother-in-law, Lenn "Doc" Smith and his wife, Charlotte of Rochester, sister-in-law, June Carlyle of Knoxville, TN; cousins, Janie Wayne and Billy Ray Hughes; nieces and nephews, Sandra (Dale) Cohron, Duncan (Debbie) Smith, Jim Spence, Vickie (Mike) Stovall, Jim (Mary) Smith, Dr. Bo (Jane) Smith, Charlie (Hope) Smith, Dr. Jerry (Brenda) Smith, and Mary (Greg) Baxter, Cheryl (Mark) Gibbons, Eddie (Kathryn) Carlyle, Jamie (Bill) Daly, Joanna (John) Blaney, and Pam (Garry) Thompson.

Services will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, at Glenn Funeral Home with burial in Rochester Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Tuesday, and after 8:30 AM Wednesday, at the funeral home.
