Catherine R. Brown

Catherine Brown, 89, of the St. Lawrence Community, passed away on Friday, March 5, 2010 at Owensboro Medical Health System. She was born on April 16, 1920 in Daviess Co., Ky. to the late Joseph Alphonsus and Matilda Ann Johnson Coomes. She was the oldest living member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church and retired as a nurse's aid from the Bishop Soenneker Home. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, cooking, reading the newspaper, talking with friends on the telephone, and especially she loved it when family, friends, and neighbors dropped in for a visit and stayed to share in a meal with her. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Gerald "Jiggs" Brown on February 9, 1996, twin daughters, Geraldine and Kathleen Brown in 1952, a grandson, Nick Brown in 1995, a great grandson, Samuel Brown in 2006, a son-in-law, Jim Batman in 2007, and her brothers and sisters, James Coomes, Joseph A. Coomes, Jr., Charles Coomes, Hazel Montgomery, and Margaret Ryan.

Surviving are three sons, Glenn Brown and wife Martha and Bob Brown and wife Clara, all of Philpot, and John Brown and wife Phyllis of Henderson, a daughter, Shirley Batman of Owensboro, 10 grandchildren, five step grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and 10 step great grandchildren.

Services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, March 8 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church with burial following in St. Lawrence Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00-8:00 P.M. Sunday with prayers at 6:00 P.M. and after 9:00 A.M. Monday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory.
