Carroll R. Burton, 89, of Masonville, passed away Thursday, September 28, 2017 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. Born in Masonville to the late Walter and Katie Burton, Carroll resided in the same home on the family farm his entire life. Likewise, he spent his entire Christian life as a member of Sugar Grove Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon and moderator.
Drafted into the U.S. Army near the end of World War II, Carroll spent most of his military service time in Austria. While he retired from the U. S. Postal Service, and spent over fifty years as a Realtor, he would tell you that farming is all he ever did.
Carroll was generous with his time. There were a number of charitable and community organizations where Carroll volunteered including the Wendell Foster Postman's Walk, the Christian Dental Mission and the National Farmer's Organization. He was a fixture, a lifetime member, always there and fully committed to anything he did. He was a Yellow Dog Democrat, walking precincts and working the polls in a number of elections.
His favorite pastimes included visiting with family and friends, talking about events of the day, and ordering from the dessert menu.
In addition to his parents, Carroll was preceded in death by five siblings, infant sister Nellie Marguerite Burton, Mary Pantle, Edith Pantle, William Burton, Kenneth Burton.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Archie Burton; sons, Howard and Tim Burton, both of Masonville; sisters-in-law, Eunice Burton of New Zealand and Nancy Smith of Utica; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The service will be 2:00 PM, Monday, October 2 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Dr. Allen Shouse and Rev. Don James will officiate. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-6 PM and Monday after 12 Noon at the funeral home. Burial will be at Utica Cemetery.
