Carrie Alice Leonard Pate passed away on September 4, 2010 in Jasper, IN. Mrs. Pate was born on April 14, 1923, in Owensboro to the late Dave and Pearl Leonard and was a life long resident of Owensboro until 2004 when she moved to Jasper to live with her daughter, Robin Pate. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Pleasant J. Pate; a son, Leonard Pate; sisters, Anna Louise Leonard and Rosalie McDaniel; and brother, Ben Leonard. Mrs. Pate is survived by her daughters, Robin Pate of Jasper, IN and Carol Palmore and her husband John of Frankfort, KY; a special niece, Patsy McDaniel Broadley; and numerous nieces and nephews, brother-in-laws, a sister-in-law and her beloved canine companion, Ginger.
Mrs. Pate was a devoted and loving Mother who went to work in the Lee Elementary School lunch room when her children were students there because she said her only real skill was cooking and she wanted to make enough money to send her children to college. She retired from there in 1991 after managing the Lee lunchroom for over 35 years. With her salary, she sent both her daughters to college, one daughter to law school and her son to technical school.
Mrs. Pate was a life long member of Eaton Memorial Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher, a Bible School teacher, an active member of the Women's Missionary Union and a member of the church choir. She enjoyed camping, boating and traveling with her husband in their RV. She was a founding member of the Owensboro Ski Club and a member of several RV clubs.
Services will be held on Wednesday at Noon in the chapel of Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery.
