Carolyn Ann Mulligan, 92, of Owensboro, formerly of St. Joseph, passed away at her home by her  Christmas tree surrounded by family on Thursday December 14, 2023.  She was born in Evansville Indiana, to the late Carl William and Ethel Lee Stone Taylor.  Carolyn was a longtime member of St. Alphonsus Church before moving to Owensboro upon her husband’s retirement and joined the Immaculate Church Parish where she was housekeeper for the priests at the parish for a number of years.  She worked and helped her husband on the family farm for many years having raised seven children.  She enjoyed riding the tobacco setter even after moving off the farm.  In her later years, she worked in the family vegetable stand and worked for 17 years at Wyndall’s Wonder Whip, fondly known as the “Hamburger Lady”.  Carolyn also took ice cream weekly to the St. Joseph Peace Mission and became known as the “Ice Cream Lady”.  Family was the most important thing in her life, being involved in all her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren’s activities.  Carolyn was a Kentucky Colonel, a past member of the Daviess County Extension Office Board.  Carolyn also was an avid U.K. basketball fan, enjoyed golfing,  playing canasta and bunco, and loved dancing especially with the Joy Johnson Seniors Group through the Health Park..

Carolyn was also preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, William J. Mulligan; brother Billy Joe Taylor and sister Betty Lee Holland; a daughter-in-law, Janice “Jan” Mulligan, a granddaughter-in-law, Vicki Lowe Belcher, and a great-grandson, Taylor Widmer on August 7, 2014.

Surviving are children, four daughters, Elizabeth A. Belcher (Randy), Becky Dant (Tony), Mary P. Mulligan (Rebecca), and Carol Hall (Terry), all of Owensboro; three sons, J. Michael Mulligan (Debra) of Leitchfield, Carl Mulligan of Owensboro, and William T. Mulligan (Pam) of Owensboro; 12 grandchildren, Brad Belcher (Kim), Chris Belcher, Eric Dant (Christina), Andrea Widmer (Mike), Nathan Dant (Kristen) of Chicago, Illinois, Erle Mulligan of Nashville, Tennessee, Patrick Mulligan (Jennifer) of Lafayette, Indiana, B. J. Hall (Kyli) and Jordan Hall (Jordan) of Philpot, Wendy Davis of Huntsville, Alabama, Ryan Ziemer (Jessica) of Panther, and Ryan Neufelder of Owensville, Indiana; and 28 great grandchildren.

The family would like to give a special thanks to her caregiver, Shelly Morris for all the loving and compassionate care she gave Carolyn. 

The Funeral Mass for Carolyn will be 11 AM Wednesday, December 20, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church with burial following in St. Alphonsus Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 9 AM until the time of the mass at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church.
