Carolyn Sue Howard Glenn, 79, of Owensboro, passed away Saturday, Aug. 17, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents James E. Howard and Fannie Nixon Howard Crabtree of Owensboro.
Throughout her life, Carolyn enjoyed all kinds of crafting, especially sewing, knitting and needlecrafts. She loved her friends like family and was always surrounded by a boisterous group when working on her projects. Scrapbooking was her last big focus and she left behind books of special memories for her family. She was also an avid reader and was passionate about fostering the love of reading in children.
Carolyn was a dedicated member of Bellevue Baptist Church for most of her adult life, volunteering in the church library, leading a community divorce recovery and support group and participating in quilting, sewing and other serving missions.
Carolyn earned a degree in education from Kentucky Wesleyan College. She also earned two masters degrees from Western Kentucky University. Carolyn spent the bulk of her teaching career as an elementary school librarian for Owensboro Public Schools and enthusiastically served families for many years at Newton Parrish Elementary.
Carolyn is survived by her son Richard (Beck) Glenn of Whitesville, and daughter Sarah (Fred) Combs of Portland, Tenn. Her grandchildren are Jordan (Jarah) Knott of Bowling Green, Rachel (Brady) Blythe of Owensboro, and Maddie, Drew and Brady Combs, all of Portland, Tenn. She is also survived by her sister Brenda Walker, brother Gerald (Karen) Howard and sister-in-law Marilyn (Bobby) Lowe, all of Owensboro. She also leaves behind several nephews, including Nicholas Walker, who she thought of as a bonus grandson.
The memorial service for Carolyn Glenn will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory where visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. The private burial will be at Owensboro Memorial Gardens.
Instead of sending flowers or other mementos, the family asks friends to honor Carolyn’s love of children and reading by purchasing a book to be given to a child in her memory. Books can be given to her family for local distribution or personalized memorial bookplates will be available for pick up during the visitation.
Memories and condolences for the family may be offered online at www.glenncares.com.
