Carolyn Wilcox Davenport, 77, of Owensboro, passed away Sunday, August 30, 2026, following a long and courageous battle with multiple sclerosis. She was born March 24, 1949, to the late Bill and Ova Wilcox.
Carolyn’s faith was at the center of her life. She was a charter member of Abundant Life Church, previously known as Masonville Baptist Church, where at that time, she served as children’s music director. Carolyn was known by those closest to her as a devoted prayer warrior. Her love for Jesus carried her throughout her life and especially through the many years of challenges brought by MS. Her family finds comfort in knowing that the struggles and limitations she endured are now behind her and that she is whole, free, and at peace in the presence of her Savior.
Carolyn loved being surrounded by the people she cared about. Family gatherings, visitors, and long conversations on the phone brought her great joy. Few things could brighten her day quite like a visit or video from her great-granddaughter, Brenley, whom she affectionately knew as “Boo.”
She also had a creative side and especially enjoyed writing poetry, working with photographs and making collages. Carolyn had previously worked at the Gem Café and spent a short time living in Bowling Green, but Owensboro was home.
In addition to her parents, Carolyn was preceded in death by her brothers, William Wilcox, Ray Wilcox, and James Wilcox; her sister, June Duncan; an aunt, Wanda “Opal” Bennett; and a special nephew, David Wayne Patton.
Those left to cherish her memory include her devoted husband, Daniel Davenport, whose love and care for Carolyn never wavered throughout her long battle with MS. He remained faithfully by her side through the good days and the difficult ones, caring for her with patience, tenderness, and strength. Their life together was a beautiful example of what it means to love someone through it all.
Carolyn is also survived by her daughter, Krista Michelle Patton (David) of Utica; son, Daniel Joseph Davenport (Katie) of Owensboro; granddaughter, Cassidy Burch (Adam); grandsons, Lance Mercer Jr. (Taylor Hoover), Easton Smith, and Levi Davenport; great-granddaughter, Brenley “Boo” Mercer; brother, Paul Wilcox (Juanita) of Owensboro; sister, Barbara Wood of Russellville; special nieces, Mary Patton, Theresa Hunton, Tracy Millay and Carol Adams.; nephew, Tony Duncan; and cousin, Norma “Tootsie” Teare.
The funeral service for Carolyn will be 2 p.m. Thursday, September 3, 2026, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Rosehill Cemetery.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Sunrise Children Services, 3180 W Parrish Ave, Owensboro, KY 42301 or Habitat for Humanity, 2930 W 4th St, Owensboro, KY 42301.
