Carolyn Marie Hayden Cecil

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Carolyn Hayden Cecil on Wednesday, November 6, 2024 at the age of 77 at the Heartford House while under the care of Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Kentucky after a nearly four year victory over pancreatic cancer. She was born January 3, 1947 in Daviess County to the late James U. Hayden, Jr. and Mary “Edna” (Fischer) Hayden. Carol was the youngest of 10 children.

Carol was a graduate of Owensboro Catholic High School, class of 1965. She met the love of her life, William “Bill” Cecil on a blind date in 1963 and they wed in 1966. They were happily married for 58 years.

Carol owned and worked alongside her husband Bill at several small businesses throughout the years. A devoted wife, mother, and “Mimi”, Carol was caring and loving, strong-willed and determined. She loved time with friends and family, especially her two grandsons, Jack Henry and Hayden. “Mimi” was always happy to help build blanket forts, make cinnamon toast, and play games.

Carol also enjoyed frequent travels with Bill. She especially enjoyed Naples, Florida, Switzerland, London, and travels out west. They made many memories at their “weekend home” on Barkley Lake. She was a devoted Catholic, raised in St. Martin’s Parish in Rome, KY and a long-time member of Blessed Mother and Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic churches in Owensboro.

Carol was also preceded in death by a son and daughter, Joseph William Cecil and Josephine Marie Cecil, both at birth; eight brothers and sisters, Mildred Ivey, Norman Hayden, Betty Oberst, Lucille Fogle Wright, Sue Hill, John Hayden, Vincent Hayden, and Doris Jane Hayden.

Surviving are her husband of 58 years, William “Bill” Cecil; two daughters, Julie Cecil Eicholtz (Erik) of Paducah and Jill Cecil Greer (Brian) of Louisville; two grandsons, Jack Henry Hagan (Lydia) of Owensboro and Hayden Greer of Louisville; a brother, Delbert Hayden of Louisville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be 10:30 AM Saturday, November 9, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with enichement following at Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 PM until 7 PM Friday with prayers at 6 PM at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory and from 9:30 AM until the time of the service Saturday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Kentucky, 3419 Wathens Crossing, Owensboro, KY 42301 or to the Carmel Home, 2501 Old Hartford Road, Owensboro, KY 42303. Messages and condolences to the family can be shared at www.glenncares.com.
