Carol M. Mark, 69, of Masonville, passed away Saturday, October 18, 2014 at her home after a battle with cancer. She was born in Niagara Falls, New York to the late Nicholas W. and Gladys E. Lamb Mataruga.

Carol earned her undergraduate degree in chemistry from the University of Evansville and later graduated from American University in Washington, D.C. where she earned her Master's in Human Resources. She had also studied at Erie County Technical Institute.

Before retirement Carol was a metallurgical engineer who worked in management for Alcoa.
She and her husband, David, raised produce at two different farms and were regulars at the Owensboro Regional Farmer's Market. As a Master Beekeeper she produced honey under the label White House Farm. She was an active member of the Green Valley Beekeepers Association and spoke on the subject numerous times in schools and other civic forums. Carol was also a Master Gardener.

Carol was a member of several organizations, including the Sierra Club, Owensboro Area World Affairs Council and First Christian Church, where she chaired the Ministry Table Board and served on the rebuilding committee. Her work with Burmese immigrants included the establishment of a church community garden and food pantry. She was known for countless hours of volunteer work in the community and in 2013 she and David were awarded the Humanitarian Award from Owensboro Human Relations Commission. Carol's love for nature and people was revealed by the life she lived. She will be missed by many.

She is survived by her husband, David Lashbrook; a son, Eric Mark of New York, NY; step-children, Pam Waugh of St. Louis, MO, Karen Mark of Bloomington, IL, Loraine Marinone of Holden, MA, Kathy Pellerite of Leominster, MA and Dr. Victor Mark of Birmingham, AL; and step-grandchildren, Brian Turlington, Amy Turlington, Tim Marinone, Michelle Marinone, Renee Marinone, Adam Pellerite, Ryan Pellerite, and Amanda Pellerite.

In celebration of Carol's life, a memorial service will be held at 5:00 PM on Saturday, November 1st at Third Baptist Church, 527 Allen St, Owensboro, KY 42303.
