Carol Kunkel Howard

Carol Kunkel Howard, 85, of Owensboro, passed away March 2, 2025. She was born October 23, 1939, in West Frankfort, IL to the late Carl Robert and Velma Eubanks Kunkel. Carol retired from Independence Bank in 2012 as a Trust Administrator. Throughout her life, Carol embodied an unwavering devotion to her family. As a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, she dedicated herself to nurturing her children and opened her heart to all her grandchildren, who many found a place of warmth and belonging in her home. Reflecting on her journey, one can truly appreciate the depth of her compassion and the legacy of love she created within her family. From sporting events to celebrating milestones with all of her children and grandchildren, Carol’s hobbies did not simply revolve around things she loved, yet, those she loved. 

Carol was preceded in death by her husband, James Kenneth Howard; son, Stephen Farley; grandson, Cody Kirkpatrick; brother, Dwight Kunkel and step-son, Michael Howard.

She is survived by her sons, Bradley Kirkpatrick and Kevin (Penny) Farley; step-daughter, Kathy (Bill) Schmitt; step-daughter, Leesa (Steve) Edge; grandchildren, Eric (Emily) Farley, Stevie (Jake) Cummings, Zach (Kaitlin) Farley, K.J. (Tiffany) Farley, Sam Farley; great-grandchildren, Tesla, Ellie, Zeke, Jace, Lakey, Kegan, Ryleigh, Wyatt Kate, Eli, Samaria, and Isabel.

The funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Friday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory where visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Owensboro Memorial Gardens.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Kentucky S.P.C.A. or the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
