Carmela Rose Garmon, 80, passed away Sunday, March 4, 2018 at Wellington Parc. Born in Richmond, Ky, she graduated from Model High School and attended Eastern Kentucky University, where she met her future husband Bob. A gifted seamstress, Carmela had worked at S.W. Anderson Company, Settle Memorial United Methodist Church PreSchool, Dan Miller Insurance, and Tamarack Elementary School. She was a member of Settle Memorial and the Mary Lou Phillips Sunday school class. Her interests were her family, playing bridge, reading and flower gardening. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gaetano and Marie Marino Gandolfo, her sister, Katherine Rickabaugh, and a niece Virginia King
Mrs. Garmon is survived by her husband of 60 years, Robert Nall Garmon; her children Elizabeth Marie "Lisa" Newcom and her husband Curt, of Owensboro and Jack Steven Garmon and his wife Marcia McDonald, of Frankfort; her grandchildren Kate Vermillion and her husband James, and Michael Garmon and his fiance' Kennedy O'Connell, all of Lexington, and Abby Nyquist and her husband Austin of Durham, NC; her brother Matthew Gandolfo and his wife Gerri; her sister Rose Mansfield and her husband Bruce; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family would like to the thank the caregivers and administrators at Wellington Parc and the caregivers at Hospice for their compassion and care of Carmela.
The funeral service for Mrs. Garmon will be at 12:00 noon Saturday at Settle Memorial United Methodist Church, where visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Saturday. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the memorial fund of Settle Memorial United Methodist Church or the Alzheimers Association.
