Carlton Edward Steele, 92, of Indianapolis, IN, formerly of Owensboro, passed away on Friday, July 28, 2017. He was born on March 13, 1925 in Lexington to the late Lester James and Florence Shanks Steele. In addition to his parents, Carlton was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Williams Steele on November 11, 2003, sisters, Lena Rivers Allison, Mildred Shump, and a brother, Lester James Steele.
Carlton was a 1949 graduate of the University of Kentucky with a degree in electrical engineering. He was a member of Tau Beta Pi, Eta Kappa Nu, and Sigma Pi Sigma Honorary Societies. Carlton was a World War II veteran where he served in the 8th Army Air Corps in England. He retired from Bell South as Operations Manager of Construction and Engineering in 1987 after 39 years of service. During his career, he held positions in Louisville, Pikeville, Winchester, Paducah, Hopkinsville, and Owensboro. He enjoyed playing golf and was a member of the Owensboro Country Club. He was an active member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and a former board member of the Owensboro Christian Church.
Carlton was a devoted husband and father who instilled ethics and integrity to his survivors who include his daughter, Sandra Steele Bowling and husband Edgar A. of Carmel, IN; grandchildren, Reid Williams Bowling and wife Teran of Lexington and Erin Elizabeth Bowling of Louisville; and great grandson, Reid Wyatt Bowling of Lexington.
Friends and family will gather on Wednesday, August 2, from 5:00-7:00 P.M. at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. A committal service will be held on Thursday, August 3, at 1:00 P.M. (E.S.T.) at Lexington Cemetery, 833 W. Main Street in Lexington with Reverend Sue Shadburne Call officiating.
