Carlene Marie Smith

February 21, 1939 — October 29, 2008

Carlene S. Smith, a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away at the age of 69 on Wednesday, October 29, 2008 at Owensboro Medical Health System. Born in Caribou, Maine, a daughter of the late Albert Sirois and Helen Bouchard Sirois, she grew up there, moving to Kentucky when her children were young. Known for her determination, tenacity, optimism, and heartfelt commitment to her family and friends, she enjoyed helping everyone. Carlene's career was spent at Owensboro Medical Health System where she had been the supervisor of housekeeping and later an emergency room instrument technician, retiring following 33 years of service. She was of the Baptist Faith and a faithful member of Bridgepointe Church. She was also preceded in death by her grandson Shane Akers, and her brothers Gilbert Sirois and Gaylen Sirois.

Survivors include her daughters, Sharon Pruett of Owensboro, Leisha Akers and her husband Steve, of Owensboro, Debbie Wade and her husband Allen of Philpot, and Nancy Hertzler and her husband Mitch of Utica; her brothers and sisters, Richard Sirois and his wife Patsy of Fayetteville, NC, Lester Sirois and his wife Noella and Conrad Sirois and his wife Diane, all of Florida, and Roger Sirois and his wife Christine, Sandra Libby, Donald Sirois and his wife Debra, and MaryLee Belanger and her husband Wayne, all of Caribou; her grandchildren, Nick Wade and his wife Lexi, Tyler Wade, Jesse Shore, Holli Godfrey and her husband Kevin, Justin Pruett, Jacob Akers, Austin Hertzler, and Adam Hertzler; her great grand children, MacKenzie Godfrey, Trey Wade, Carly Wade, and Rowyn Goodwin; the father of her children, Charles E. Smith of West Louisville and his companion Nancy Reynolds; along with numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

Services, officiated by Rev. Steve Cripps, are at 12:00 noon Friday at Glenn Funeral Home, where visitation will be from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday and after 9:00 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Bridgepointe Baptist Church or the Mitchell Memorial Cancer Center.
