Carl L. Hamilton

Carl L. Hamilton, Sr., 87, of Owensboro passed away on Friday, June 27, 2014 at the Heartford House, surrounded by family and friends. He was born in Owensboro to the late Joseph and Anna Canary Hamilton.

Carl served in the Coast Guard and Merchant Marines during World War II. He then attended Western Kentucky University where he earned a B.A. in accounting.

His accounting career included Texas Gas, Medley Distillery, a tax business and seven years of teaching accounting at Brescia University. Carl and his late wife, Mae also owned retail operations. He attended Blessed Mother Catholic Church. Carl dedicated much of his life to helping countless people who have struggled with addiction issues. In spite of being well into his eighties, his passion for this cause helped him continue this endeavor as recently as May of this year. His work through River Valley Behavioral Health was exemplary and he will be missed by many.

Carl was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Mae Gibbs Hamilton; daughters, Judy Hinton and Carol Craig; several brothers; a sister; and a grandson, Ryan Settles.

He is survived by daughters, Brenda Settles Whitehouse and Lisa Chandler (Jeff) of Owensboro; sons, Carl L. Hamilton, Jr. of Louisville and Keith Hamilton (Brandi) of Lexington; grandchildren, Matthew, Christy, Jennifer, Martin, Jr., Nick, Heather, Nicole, Jim, Jack, Piper, Tucker, Danny and Andy; and several great grandchildren. In addition, he is survived by his loving companion, Libby Storm of Owensboro.

A Mass of Celebration will be held at 10 AM on Tuesday at Blessed Mother Catholic Church followed by a reception in the parish hall.
