C. Herbert Johnson, 88, of Owensboro, formerly of Maceo, died Saturday, February 13, 2010 at Wellington Parc. He was born April 16, 1921 to the late Gregory and Anna Theresa Johnson in Daviess County. He was a farmer, a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, and a Honorary Kentucky Colonel. He enjoyed fishing, telling stories, jokes and gardening.
He was preceded in death by a son, Martin Johnson, two daughters, Barbara Roehm, and Mary Cundiff, two brothers, Sylvester and Justin Johnson, and five sisters, Ursula House, Sister Anna Frances Johnson, Zita Johnson, Amelia Fullenwider, and Catherine Johnson.
Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Frances Audeline Johnson; his children; Steve (Patty) Johnson, Tom (Krystyna) Johnson, and Gladys Wall, all of Owensboro, Nancy (Norman) Wheatley, Loretta (Rodney) Wheatley, both of Hawesville, a daughter-in-law, Ruth Ann Johnson of Nashville, TN, and a son-in-law, Ed Roehm of Lewisport; 22 grandchildren, and two step-grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and four step-great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, with burial in Mater Dolorosa Cemetery. Visitation will be 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM Monday and after 9:00 AM Tuesday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Prayers will be 7:00 PM Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Pius X Catholic Church Building Fund, 3418 Hwy 60 East, Owensboro, KY 42303.
