Brenda Gayle Turner Logan

Brenda Gayle Turner Logan, 84, of Owensboro, passed away Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at sunrise with her daughter by her side. She was born November 27, 1941, in her beloved Tennessee and was the daughter of Carrie Vudus “Peggy” Hogin Turner and William Desha “Dick” Turner, Jr.

Some of Brenda’s favorite childhood memories were of times spent with her “Granny Hogin” and running wild with all her boy cousins in the summertime. She was a great storyteller and loved sharing her remembrances of those days.

Brenda was a proud graduate of Madison High School in Madison, Tennessee and loved sharing tales about the adventures she and her many friends had in 1950’s Madison. She cherished her friendships and never met a stranger. She played an active role in organizing numerous high school reunions where those memories were happily relived. Brenda attended Middle Tennessee State College before getting married and starting a family. During her younger adult years, Brenda was an active member of Madison Presbyterian Church. She taught Sunday School to preschoolers and was involved in the Friendship Circle.

Brenda was a career woman, working as an administrative assistant and executive secretary for many years in private business and state government. She retired from the State of Tennessee after working for the Department of Public Health, the Insurance Commission, and the Department of Economic and Community Development. One of her biggest accomplishments for ECD was coordinating a Tennessee visit and speaking engagement by Margaret Thatcher, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.

During her leisure time, Brenda had many hobbies and interests and gave 110% to all of them. She discovered a love for playing tennis in the 1970’s and played in many groups and leagues. Brenda bled orange and was an intense University of Tennessee football fan. For many years she attended home games in Knoxville as a season ticket holder, as well as all over the south and even Hawaii.

She was a wonderful cook and delighted in collecting cookbooks and recipes. Brenda loved trying out these recipes for her family, friends, church potlucks, and even herself. Brenda also enjoyed gardening, entertaining, reading, music, photography, and movies. She was a friend to all dogs and gave many a happy home during her lifetime.

After retirement, Brenda moved from Tennessee and made Owensboro her home to be near her only child, her son-in-law, and three grandchildren. Being a “Gom” to her grandchildren was one of the happiest times in her life. She joined First Presbyterian Church, making new friends and becoming involved in Circle activities and Bible study groups.

Brenda is survived by her daughter, Kimberly (John) Lashbrook of Owensboro; grandchildren, Harper, Caroline, and Jack Lashbrook; a brother, Barry (Cheryl) Turner of Goodlettsville, TN; along with several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at First Presbyterian Church on Friday, February 27 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. with a private family memorial service to follow.
