Brenda Lynn Coomes, 62, of Owensboro died Monday, June 7, 2010 in Oakwood Healthcare, Tell City, Indiana. Brenda was born in Hancock County to the late, Coleman and Virginia (Ryan) Newton, and retired from Owensboro Medical Health System after 27 years. She was a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church, was a loving mother, had a great sense of humor, and enjoyed being with her family and friends. Her husband, Joseph Dennie Coomes preceded her in death in 2008, and a sister, Lily Denson in 2007.

Surviving are her daughter, Kelley Coomes of Ft. Lauderdale, FL., sisters, Phyllis (Frank) Daniels and Arlene (Leroy) Skaggs both of Louisville, Ky., and brothers, Dalton Newton and Bobby (JoEtta) Newton, both of Tell City, IN., brothers and sisters in law, Lois and Charles Hoskins of Maceo, Joyce and Paul Lambert, Tony and Susan Coomes, Rita and Billy Woods, Ivan and Goretti Coomes, all of Owensboro, Jane Coomes of Philpot, and Doris and Mark Modest of Ft. Lauderdale, FL.,

Funeral services will be 12:00 p.m. Thursday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with Fr. Richard Meredith officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens in Hawesville, Ky. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with prayers at 7:00 p.m.,and after 10 a.m. Thursday. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the American Lung Association
