Bonnie Muneen Popowski

Bonnie Muneen Popowski, 86, of Owensboro, Kentucky, passed away on February 22, 2024. Bonnie was born in Macomb, Illinois, to the late Mr. Vaughn Rigg and Mrs. William Newall. She graduated from Western High School, moved to Inglewood California for employment, met and married John Andrew Popowski on February 13, 1960.  Soon after, they started a family and John’s career took the family to different states across the country. Bonnie was always supportive and by his side.  Bonnie was a wonderful and loving wife and mother who placed only God higher than family. She attended Owensboro Christian Church.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, who she has joined in eternal peace and glory. She is survived by her brother Larry Rigg (June); two daughters, Janine Lehman (Kirk) and Marisa Colston (Jon); three grandsons, Jarett Lehman (Cindy), Jayce Popowski (Mollie) and Jonathan Colston; and two great-grandchildren, Alexis Lehman and Bryce Popowski-Tanner.

Bonnie’s commitment to her family was the cornerstone of her life. As a dedicated wife, mother, grand and great-grandmother, she found immense joy in these roles. Beyond her family circle, Bonnie touched many lives through her volunteer roles, especially with Mended Hearts, Owensboro Veterans Administration Clinic, and Owensboro Christian Church. Her passion for painting and cooking led her to create beautiful works of art and culinary delights that brought happiness to those around her. Her legacy of gentleness, compassion, gratitude, and a heart for service towards family, friends and the community will be fondly remembered.  Bonnie truly showed the heart of Jesus to everyone she met.

A celebration of Bonnie’s life will be held at 7:00 pm, Tuesday, February 27th at Owensboro Christian Church, where visitation will be held from 4:30-6:30 pm Tuesday. Please enter the church at Entrance A.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Owensboro Christian Church, 2818 New Hartford Rd. Owensboro, KY 42303 or the Heartford House, C/O Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Kentucky, 3419 Wathen’s Crossing, Owensboro, KY 42301.
