Bobby Joe Tomes, 70, of 3003 Meadowland Drive, died Friday, August 31, 2001 at Owensboro Mercy Health System. The Rumsey, Kentucky native was a member of Bellevue Baptist Church. He was retired from Commonwealth Aluminum and Ideal Pure Milk Company. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the American Legion. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict and earned the Good Conduct Medal. He was a KY Colonel, and enjoyed yard work, walking and spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Alma Underwood Tomes. He is also survived by two son, Michael J. Tomes of Adams, TN and Terry L. Tomes of Owensboro, KY, a brother, Norman Tomes of Owensboro, KY, and a sister, Peggy Martin of Senatobia, MS. Mr. Tomes has 3 Grandchildren.
Visitation for Mr. Tomes is Saturday, September 1, 2001 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Visitation will also be held after noon on Sunday, September 2, 2001 at Glenn Funeral Home. Services will be held in Glenn Funeral Home Chapel in Owensboro, Kentucky on Sunday, September 2, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. with burial following in Owensboro Memorial Gardens.
