Bobby E. Ross, 68, died Tuesday, February 28, 2006 at his home at 4004 Yates Drive in Owensboro. He was born August 17, 1937 to the late T. A. and Ora Wall Ross in Winston-Salem, NC.
He retired from the U.S. Navy in 1974 as an E6 Aircraft mechanic. While in the Navy he served in Vietnam, Cuba and Korea. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. After retiring from the Navy, Mr. Ross was employed by W. R. Grace, General Electric and Homefolks housing. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of VFW Post 696. Mr. Ross was a devoted and beloved father and grandfather who loved NASCAR, fishing, camping and woodworking.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dona Ross, his grandson, Matthew Ross and two sisters, Callie Vestal and Ola Mae Birley.
Survivors include his daughters, Amy Benningfield of Owensboro and Anita Turlington of Commerce, GA; sons, Michael, Thomas and Donald Ross, all of Owensboro and John Ross of Louisville; a granddaughter, Lindsay Ross, grandsons, John Haubenreich, Luke Ross, Ross Benningfield and Josh Benningfield; a sister, Iona R. Cheek of Seagrove, NC.
Services will be 10:00 AM Friday at Glenn Funeral Home with burial in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:00 until 8:00 PM Thursday and after 9:00 AM Friday at the funeral home. Military honors will be given at the cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Association, 723 Harvard Drive, Owensboro, KY 42301.
