Bobby Allen Ellis, 92, of Owensboro, passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2026 while under the care of Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Kentucky. He was born March 26, 1934 in Daviess County to the late Albert and Iva Ellis. Bobby was retired from selling mowing equipment with the Yazoo Company at 62 years old and then worked part time for 13 years at Wetzels, Foodland, and IGA. He was a proud member of Greater Vision Baptist Church for over 70 years. Bobby loved fishing, hunting, was an avid fan of U.K. basketball and New York Yankees baseball. For many years, Bobby played fast-pitch softball in the Owensboro City League and was a member of the Velvet Milk Company and V. E. Anderson teams that won many championships in the 50’s and 60’s.
Bobby was also preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Mary Ruth Ellis, a daughter, Ruth Ann Ellis, and four brothers, Albert Ellis, Jr., Norman Ellis, Bill Hamilton, and Carl Hamilton.
Surviving are four children, Thomas Loyd Ellis (Celyna) of Houston, Texas, Roger Allen Ellis (Vickie) of Owensboro, Deborah Joyce Ellis of West Frankfort, Illinois, and Rodney Neal Ellis (Christy) of Owensboro; 12 grandchildren, Robin Ellis, Magen Cherry, Leslie Mallia, Bradley Ellis, Jonathan Ellis, Tiffany Nicholson, Bryanna Bruce, Lorie Odam, Katie Brewick, Allison Ellis, Natalie Ellis, and Andrew Ellis; 24 great grandchildren, one great great grandchildren; and a sister, Louise Levine of New York.
Funeral services will be 10 AM Monday, July 6 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with burial following in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 3 PM until 6 PM Sunday, July 5 after 9 AM Monday at the funeral home.
