Billy J. Taylor

Billy J. "Tex" Taylor, 79, of Owensboro, passed away Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. He was born March 6, 1935 in Daviess Co., KY to the late James H. and Bessie Taylor. He was retired as a letter carrier and supervisor with the United States Postal Service. Tex was a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church and was a 1953 graduate of Owensboro Catholic High School. He had coached Catholic Youth football back in the early 1960's. He was an avid deer hunter and University of Louisville sports fan. He also was a Kentucky Colonel, enjoyed listening to country music and watching old Westerns. He especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and going to various events they were involved in. He also was preceded in death by a sister, Clara Millay.

Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Lillian Wade Taylor, his son, Larry (Joan) Taylor of New Albany, IN, three daughters, Debra (Neil) Mattingly of Owensboro, Sheila (Gary) Swenson of Fairfax, VA, and Stacy Taylor of Owensboro, eight grandchildren, Mark Taylor of New Albany, Katie (D.J.) Barksdale of New Albany, Ashley (Bobby) Richeson of Owensboro, Dr. Christopher Mattingly of Columbia, TN, Daniel and Bradley Mattingly, both of Owensboro, Samantha (Duncan Kaai) Taylor of Owensboro, and Brandon Johnson of Tampa, FL, three great grandchildren, Emma and Eli Barksdale and Vincent Richeson, two sisters, Mary Tichenor of Owensboro and Shirley Mahoney of New Albany, two brothers, George R. Taylor and Sherman Taylor, both of Owensboro, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Services will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, October 25, at Precious Blood Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 P.M. Friday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with prayers at 6:00 P.M. and after 9:00 A.M. Saturday at Precious Blood.
