Billy Stephen Butler

Billy Stephen Butler, 84, of Owensboro passed away peacefully in his sleep at home surrounded by his family on March 15, 2026. Billy was born on August 24, 1941, in Hawesville to Fielden and Martha Vanconey Butler. He grew up in Hawesville and graduated from Hawesville High School in 1960. Over the years he built a life centered around hard work and family, working as a millwright and earning recognition as a Kentucky Colonel.

Billy was married to the love of his life, Regina Boswell Butler, and together they shared nearly 52 wonderful years of marriage, building a home and raising their family together in Owensboro.

Billy was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who was most proud of his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Regina Butler; his children, Stephen (Donna) Butler, Stacy (Jeff) Benningfield, and Wade (Codye) Butler; and his grandchildren Hailey Butts, Sarah (Steven) Razo, Aaron (Ashley) Peach, Nathan (Rachel) Butler, Jacob (Jessica) Benningfield, Hannah Benningfield, Owen Butler, Emery Butler, McClaine Butler, and Chapel Butler. He is also survived by his sisters, Betty Sturgeon and Malinda Hubbard, along with many extended family members including 14 great-grandchildren and friends who thought the world of him & will miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his late wife Donna Jackson Butler, his parents Fielden and Martha Butler, and his brothers Charles Butler and Kenny Butler.

Billy enjoyed the simple pleasures in life - a good joke, coffee with friends, listening to and playing bluegrass music, working on old cars, attending Friday After 5, playing cards, and spending time at bluegrass festivals. He was a member of Ridgewood Baptist Church in Owensboro.

Those who knew Billy will remember the way he would pull you close to share a laugh, a bit of wisdom, and often reminding others just how much Jesus loved them. Private family service & Celebration of life to follow at a later date.
