Billy R. Williams, 86, of Owensboro, passed away Thursday, February 18, 2016 in the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. Born in Wayland, KY, the son of the late Walter and Stella Hampton Williams, he graduated from Paintsville High School. Following graduation he joined the Marine Corp, after which he enrolled at Kentucky Wesleyan College in Winchester. Bill was recalled to the Corp during the Korean War, serving there in active combat. Upon his discharge, he again attended Kentucky Wesleyan, which had then moved to Owensboro. Following his marriage in 1953 he joined Smith and Butterfield in outside sales, from which he retired after 42 years of employment. Bill was a member of Lewis Lane Baptist Church. An avid golfer, he had scored three holes-in-one.
Mr. Williams is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marlene K. Williams; his children Bill K. Williams (Francine) of Pt. St. Lucie, FL and Charlene Taylor (Frank) of Lexington; his grandchildren, Frank Taylor (Amy) of Frankfort, and Will Taylor and Rachael Taylor, both of Lexington; his great-grandchildren Brannon Taylor and Emma Taylor, both of Frankfort; and his sister Opal Melvin of Paintsville.
The funeral service for Mr. Williams will be 10:00 a.m. Monday in the chapel of Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, where visitation will be from 2:00 until 6:00 p.m. Sunday and after 9:00 a.m. Monday. Burial will follow in Rosehill Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to The Christian Life Center of Lewis Lane Baptist or Heartford House of Hospice of Western Kentucky.
