Bill Fuqua, 78, of Philpot, passed away on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at Owensboro Medical Health System after a brief illness. He was born in Fordsville, Kentucky to the late Frank and Irene (Rice) Fuqua. Bill graduated from Fordsville High School and was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served for two years.
He retired in 2000 from Kelly-Wilmore Construction where he primarily worked on obtaining utility contracts for the company. Prior to that, he spent 19 years as a supervisor at Kentucky Electronics.
Bill was a very active 43 year member of Dawson Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon and longtime Chairman of the Building Committee. He was also part of the church's senior group, S.A.S. Many of his church friends will fondly remember the many times Bill and his wife hosted the annual fish fry at his home.
Bill enjoyed travel and it was common for the whole family to vacation together about once a year to destinations such as Gatlinburg and Florida. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren and he especially enjoyed fishing with them. Bill also enjoyed cooking and U.K. Basketball.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Amy Beth Fuqua in 1970; his parents; and two brothers, Jim "Bobby" Fuqua and Vernon Barnett.
Bill is survived by his wife of 49 years, Pat (Rearden) Fuqua; two sons, Mike Fuqua (Starla) of Whitesville and Jason Fuqua (Michelle) of Owensboro; four grandchildren, Logan, Justin, Lauren and Molly Fuqua; a sister in law, Terry Fuqua; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at Noon on Tuesday, January 29 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Rev. Craig Bratcher and Dr. Joe Thomas will officiate. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday from 2-8 PM and on Tuesday after 11 AM at the funeral home.
