Beverly Ann Wood, 61, of Owensboro, passed away of lymphoma Monday December 6, 2010 at her home. Born in Hardinsburg, Kentucky, a daughter of Anna Elizabeth Robbins Hobbs and the late Denver Elijah Hobbs, she graduated from Breckenridge County High School in 1967 and married James Barry Wood on September 21, 1968. Committed to helping others, she served as a volunteer for her church, the Special Olympics for which she was active in forming its golf program and tournament, and most recently for the Help Office. She was an avid and excellent golfer, having played in numbers of tournaments, both alone and with her husband, and having won a golf cart for a hole-in-one in 1995. She was a tireless and devoted advocate and caretaker for her son, James Alan.
Beverly is survived by her husband of 42 years, J. Barry Wood; her daughter, Dr. JoAnn Phillips Wood and her husband Grady Wallace Phillips and her step-granddaughters Mary Grace Phillips and Lexi Jae Phillips, all of Southaven, MS; her son, James Alan Wood of Owensboro; her mother, Anna Elizabeth Hobbs and her brothers and her sister, Bill Hobbs, Fred Hobbs, Tony Hobbs, and Patricia Niles, all of Hardinsburg; and a nephew, Bradley Dale Wood of Louisville.
