Bettye Reisz Riney

August 24, 1926 — April 5, 2012

Bettye Reisz Riney, 85, of Owensboro passed away April 5, 2012 at the Owensboro Medical Health System. Born in Rome, KY, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Rosa Fischer Reisz; was a homemaker; and was a member of St Stephen Cathedral. Mrs. Riney grew up in Reed and graduated from Spottsville High school and then Mount St Joseph College where she met her husband Joseph Gerald Riney. "A country girl who lived in the city", Mrs. Riney enjoyed gardening, history, collecting antiques, and was very fond of trips back to the family farm in Reed. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Gerald Riney in 2005 and a daughter, Jeanne Riney in 2009.

Survivors include her children, Rosemary Thompson (Bill) of Owensboro, Jo Ann Spath (Don) and Susan Clifford (Wally) both of Louisville, Carol Schuenemeyer (David) of Atlanta, Dan Riney (Kim) of Owensboro and John Riney (Janie) of Houston; grandchildren, Ingrid Stillman, Derrick Thompson, Jenny Spath, Molly Williams, Dani Clifford, Sarah Schuenemeyer, Luke Schuenemeyer, and Abbie Riney; 6 great-grandchildren; and her first cousin and best friend, Jane Lewis of Owensboro.

Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at St. Martin Catholic Church with Father Jerry Riney and Father Maury Riney officiating followed by entombment in Resurrection Cemetery . Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory where prayers will be said at 7 p.m. Monday evening.
