Betty Roberts Yager, 90, of Owensboro, passed away Thursday, May 19, 2016 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. Born in Owensboro, the daughter of the late Allen and Kathlyn Osborne Roberts, she was a graduate of Owensboro High School and the then Western Kentucky Teachers College where she was Military Queen. She taught briefly in the state of Ohio until her husband visited her there, brought her to Owensboro, and married her. She loved her husband dearly and the feeling was mutual. Betty's life revolved around her family and her family revolved around her. She and Johnny enjoyed boating from their early days on, starting with a wooden runabout on the Ohio River, then to a houseboat on Kentucky Lake, then to cruising in the Naples, Florida area. A lady of the old school, she expressed her appreciation with elegant handwritten notes which people loved to receive. She loved people and they loved her; wherever she went, she was a friend to all.
She was preceded in death by her husband Johnny Yager in 2007, and her brother Jim Roberts in 2015.
Mrs. Yager is survived by her children Pat Yager (Hope), Al Yager (Linda), and Jim Yager (Demetria) all of Owensboro; her grandchildren Holly King, John Yager (Elizabeth), Tony Yager, Madison Yager, Bailey Yager, Mackenzie Yager, and Matthew Yager; her step-grandchildren Adam Montgomery (Andra), Ryan Watkins, Chad Watkins, Eric Garner, and Logan Garner; and her great-grandchildren Annalee Yager, Addelyn Yager, John Patrik Yager, Preston King, Jordan King, and Nolan King.
Her family wishes to thank Comfort Keepers. They helped watch over her for the past 7 years and became part of the family. The warmth they put into her care will never be forgotten.
Visitation for Mrs. Yager will be from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. Sunday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to The Boulware Center or The Boys and Girls Club of Owensboro. The funeral service, followed by interment in Elmwood Cemetery, will be private
