Betty Lou Rhodes

Betty L. Rhodes, 80, of Owensboro, died Wednesday, July 6, 2005, at Owensboro Medical Health System. She was born December 14, 1924 in Akron, Ohio and graduated from Beech Grove High School in 1945. She graduated from Owensboro-Daviess County Cadet Nursing Program in 1948 and retired from the Owensboro Mercy Health System after 33 years as a nurse. She was also a member of the American Nurses Association, Kentucky Nurses Association and KNA District 8. She was a former volunteer at the Owensboro Free Clinic and at the Owensboro Daviess County Hospital. She was an original volunteer at the River Park Center, a Kentucky Colonel and a member of Walnut Memorial Baptist Church and a former member of St. Stephen Cathedral. She enjoyed her grandchildren, camping, NASCAR and UK Basketball. She was preceded in death by her adoptive parents, Albert and Bess Galloway and stepmother, Ethylene Allen Galloway Jones and sister, Elizabeth A. Augustine of Ohio and Louisville, KY.

Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Joseph A. Rhodes; one daughter, Sue B. Sorenson of Ft. Dodge, IA; three sons, James A. Rhodes of Utica, Thomas E. Rhodes and his wife, Betty, of Owensboro, Ray J. Rhodes of Owensboro; three granddaughters, Mary Sorenson Ludwig and her husband, Brett, of IA, Sara B. Sorenson of Sioux City, IA and Kaylen M. Rhodes of Owensboro; two grandsons, Joseph T. Sorenson of Wichita, KS and Kevin T. Rhodes of Owensboro; Three great-granddaughters, Julianna Sorenson of Wichita, KS, Tyrei Lofton and Tristin E. Ludwig of IA; one brother, Tom Galloway and his wife, Charlotte of Port Orange, FL, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Monday at Glenn Funeral Home, with burial in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be 1:00 until 6:00 PM Sunday and after 9:00 AM Monday at the funeral home.
